Following the success of a LabVIEW program written by LiveWires for logging of data from a cooling system, Oxford Magnet Technology commissioned our LabVIEW programmers to write a general-purpose data logger. The testing of superconducting magnets can entail collecting data from a wide variety of sensors, such as:
The data logging program acquires data at a user-specified rate from two 66-channel Agilent digital multiplexer units. In the Set Up section of the program, the user tells the program what types of sensors are connected to the 66 channels of each multiplexer unit. The program then automatically configures the units. The user can apply conversion formulae to the raw readings – these include polynomial conversions, user-specified look-up tables etc.
When the user presses “Start Logging”, the program starts acquiring data and plotting them on the trend charts and XY graph. Various controls allow the charts to be easily configured to show the plots that are of special interest and to switch between different sets of plots.
